Democrats to blame for problems in House

Rep. Pingree’s explanation of voting out a man who just worked out a deal to avert a government shut down by working across the party line is disingenuous (“Golden and Pingree vote with House majority to remove Speaker McCarthy,” Oct. 3).

The accusation of one man rule is absurd, as the rule she cites makes it easier to have a vote to remove the person in question. But it did not give one man the ability to shut down the House. She, and over 200 of her Democratic colleagues, voted with the Republicans most at odds with their programs to dump a centrist for working with them. She, and they, are responsible for the House stopping work.

This is not, as the news about Democrats being kicked out of choice office spaces, going to make working across the aisle more likely.

It will, obviously, increase polarization and the chances for a shut down.

It looks more like a tactic to get good talking points for the 2024 elections than one to get a good budget passed.

Politicians putting politics ahead of governing responsibly? Could that happen?
