It was somewhat surreal yesterday to knock on doors for the Dems with Pam Gray a few blocks from the childhood home/ museum of Alice Paul in Mount Laurel, NJ.
Alice Paul was a leader in the women’s freedom to vote movement a century ago- and Pam and I were hearing from women furious about Republican laws and candidates stripping them TODAY of other freedoms.
The irony was overwhelming and sad as hell
We had other interesting conversations with voters:
1) One young mom said that her top issue is gun violence -“I have a 5 year old in kindergarten who has to take part in shooter drills- AND a three year old in preschool who also has to take part in shooter drills! This is sick!”
2) One man said his top issue is “I want an adult in the White House!”
And we walk up to a house- the info said it’s a man in his 40s, unknown party affiliation, and we see a National Rifle Association sticker on the front door and are thinking this just might be a tough one- but he said right away “I’m with the Democrats all the way!”
Ya never know.
Generally positive responses, gave out two Andy Kim for Senate lawn signs, signed up a possible volunteer- election’s getting close, let’s keep pounding away!!!
